VALUE PACKED: We administer a Bio Lab experience for an uncommon opportunity to engage your group in Biology, Citizen Science, Critical Thinking and Team Building.
        A Bio Lab is a 60-90 minute program conducted at your site.
  • It starts with an indoor orientation, followed by outdoor field time. While outside, we conduct observations of nature for the purpose of identification and database building.
  • After learning and practicing how to locate fascinating organisms in nature, we capture them in photographic images and then head back indoors to learn about identification.
  • The program wraps up with the creation of a unique Bio Lab specifically for your group. It can be monitored over the next week for confirmations on ID's with potential for feedback from biologists and naturalists.
  • The work done by each Bio Lab group is utilized to aggregate observations locally, nationally and globally. Your observations help to generate useful data for science and conservation purposes.
  • A 60-90 minute program scheduled at your location on the date and time of your choosing.
  • A preliminary orientation to set the stage for the field portion.
  • The group will be broken into 2 or more teams and given their tagging flags.
  • Participants of each team will engage in searching for possible organisms that fit the parameters established for your Bio Lab and tag them.
  • Once each team completes the tagging portion of the field work, your Naturalist Guide will photograph all specimens for our lab work back indoors.
  • Specimen photographs will be uploaded to the Bio Lab that we've made ready specifically for your group.
  • Teams will then engage in the identification process for their Bio Lab observations with our helpful guidance.
  • The skills of cooperation, persuasion, decision-making and critical thinking are all practiced during this portion of the program.
  • Instructions will be given about what will happen over the next week as you monitor your Bio Lab and watch for confirmations to your ID's by scientists, biologists and other Naturalists.
Outdoor Learning Initiative will provide all materials for each team to participate fully in the program and include: Handouts, Tagging flags, Photography of observations, Equipment for uploads and identification.

We do ask that your location have a classroom or other appropriate space where our indoor lab work can be done. This space will need to have WiFi access and a suitable surface where a laptop can be set up. These needs are very minimal and most classroom or similar type of space will usually have all appropriate accommodations necessary.
